WHAT IS IT?

This is a 1-day live challenge, hosted online on Zoom, that’s going to help you improve the first-shot translation of all your mixes and masters.

The goal? For your mixes to sound EXACTLY the same outside your room as they do in your studio. No more car tests necessary.

We'll walk you through the entire process, step-by-step...
  • The correct way to position your monitor speakers in your room
  • Where to place your acoustic treatment (and why)
  • What treatment to use (and what to avoid)
  • How to build your perfect studio without a math or physics PhD
  • Taking a room from good to great with room correction software
This free event is hosted in partnership with GIK Acoustics and Sonarworks

"I gotta say, I learned more practical material here in a few months than I did at a 4 year university"

Kevin Koelzer — Acoustic Guitarist & Audio Engineer

CAN'T I JUST USE HEADPHONES?

While mixing on headphones is possible, you can't beat having both a great set of headphones AND a great room.

If you truly want to produce industry-quality mixes and masters, it helps to listen on speakers too. The truth is, a lot of listeners will be using speakers, so you need to know how your mix/master is going to translate.

You also need to be aware that most headphones are not perfectly flat and have their own inaccuracies. This is something we will talk about at the event too.

So, while it's certainly possible to achieve good mixes with headphones and lots of testing in the car, everything gets easier when you have an accurate listening environment, in addition to a good set of headphones.

You got questions? We have answers.

What if I mix on headphones?
While mixing on headphones is possible, you can't beat having both a great set of headphones AND a great room. If you truly want to produce industry-quality mixes and masters, you need to listen on speakers too. The truth is, a lot of listeners will be using speakers, so you need to know how your mix/master is going to translate.

While it's certainly possible to achieve this with headphones and lots of testing in the car, everything gets easier when you have an accurate listening environment.
Do I need to buy expensive sound treatment for this to work?
Purchasing pre-built panels is what we generally recommend, and it's why we partnered with GIK for this event. However, you can build panels yourself if you want to. The theory we'll be teaching in this event remains the same either way.
Do I have to use SoundID Reference by Sonarworks?
SoundID Reference by Sonarworks will help with any room but it's not a replacement for proper monitor placement and acoustic treatment. We'll be covering that too, then it's up to you whether you use SoundID Reference in addition or not (although we highly recommend it).
Where is the event hosted?
The entire event is hosted online over Zoom. After registering on this page, you will be sent an email with the Zoom link for the live event.
Do I need a purpose built studio?
Not at all. We know that most people are working with less than ideal rooms. We'll go through a step-by-step process for analyzing your room and figuring out exactly what it needs to reach a professional level.
